Minneapolis Building Permits

Building permits in Minneapolis are handled by Construction Code Services within Development Services, which reviews and approves construction plans and inspects the work from the Public Service Building. The city enforces the Minnesota State Building Code, as every city of its size must, and cannot change it by ordinance. A stalled project carries a local risk: under the Vacant Building Registration program, a vacant structure that cannot obtain a certificate of occupancy because of work stoppage or expired permits can require registration and an annual fee of over $7,000.
