Baltimore Building Permits
Baltimore City is an independent jurisdiction, separate from Baltimore County. Building permits are issued by the Department of Housing and Community Development from its One Stop Shop, and every permit is processed through the ePermits online system, from construction and alterations to electrical, mechanical, plumbing and use and occupancy permits. In a city historic district, exterior work is referred to the Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation, and its notice-to-proceed is required before the permit can be issued; some minor work needs a permit there that would not need one elsewhere.
