What requires a permit in Cocoa Beach?
Cocoa Beach states that permits are required for most construction and renovation projects. Its current Building Division page specifically lists air-conditioning and heating replacements, electrical and plumbing work, decks, docks, boathouses, boat lifts, driveways and curb cuts, fences and exterior handrails.
The City also lists shutters and window replacements, fire alarms and sprinklers, wall paneling and drywall, balcony restoration, commercial floor-plan alterations, concrete slabs, patios and gazebos, dredge-and-fill projects and fascia work.
If you are unsure whether a project needs a permit, the City asks you to contact the Building Division at 321-868-3217 before work begins. Property owners, not contractors, are responsible for obtaining permits and may be cited if work begins without one.
