Floodplain and septic rules
Floodplain: under the county’s Floodplain Management Ordinance 12022010, the Henry County Emergency Management Director acts as floodplain administrator and issues floodplain development permits; no new building, substantial improvement or manufactured home may be placed in an A or AE flood zone without one. The application must give the base flood elevation and the planned floor elevation. A new or substantially improved home must have its lowest floor, including any basement, 1 ft above the base flood elevation, and non-residential buildings must reach the same height or be floodproofed with an engineer’s or architect’s certification. Farm buildings, and parking or storage buildings of up to 400 sq ft, may be built at grade and wet-floodproofed only with a variance and a floodplain permit, and only if no one lives or works in them. The Emergency Management office is at 220-B Washington Street, Clinton (660-383-1061).
