Three incorporated places lie in the county. Marble Hill issues its own building permits; the published sources say nothing for Sedgewickville and Glen Allen, so ask the village office there:

Flood maps and septic systems in Bollinger County

Flood maps: Bollinger County, Marble Hill and Glen Allen take part in the National Flood Insurance Program, and FEMA lists new flood maps for all three effective October 30, 2025. Check a site against the current map before building, filling or grading near a creek. Zalma has disincorporated: the county adopted the Zalma map panel and flood study in its floodplain ordinance effective August 20, 2018, so flood insurance in Zalma is written under the county’s program.

Septic systems: the state health department’s directory names DHSS itself as the onsite wastewater permitting authority for Bollinger County; apply for an application number through DHSS or call 573-751-6095 ext. 5. DHSS says some single-family residential lots may be exempt and that work should not start until a permit is issued or the exemption confirmed, and it suspended its application fees on August 28, 2026 until new fee standards take effect. The environmental services page of the Bollinger County Health Center in Marble Hill also states that sewage permits are available for a fee, so call the Health Center (573-238-2817) and DHSS before work starts to confirm which office will issue yours.
