How to get a building permit in Anaheim

1. Open a GoPost account for Building

A separate GoPost account is needed for Building even if you already have a Public Works or Planning account.

2. Upload the plans

Submit the plan set through GoPost.

3. Pay before review

The City emails the amount due; pay it by calling the Building department at 714-765-5153. The plan is routed for review once payment is received.

4. Resubmit corrections the Anaheim way

A second review before issuance is a resubmittal: do not cloud the changes, give a narrative of what changed, and include the old plan check sets, the new corrected sets and a comment response letter.

5. Revise after issuance

Changes after the permit is issued are revisions, and every change on the plans must be clouded.

Anaheim code amendments and design criteria

Anaheim’s local amendments sit in Title 15 of the Anaheim Municipal Code. For the 2025 code cycle, the City has filed ordinances 6613 and 6614-Partial with the California Building Standards Commission, and the 2025 codes with Anaheim amendments apply to projects submitted on or after January 1, 2026; earlier submittals follow the 2022 codes.

The City’s published design criteria: wind speed 90 mph for Risk Category I, 95 mph for II, 100 mph for III and 105 mph for IV; Climate Zone 8; Seismic Design Category D, E or F as determined by USGS maps and CBC Chapter 16.
