What requires a permit in Doraville?
The City publishes a residential checklist of work that needs a permit. It includes accessory structures, hardwired appliance replacement such as an AC unit, new or relocated electrical circuits, gas piping, major interior remodels, new decks, new roofs or structural roof changes, retaining walls 48 inches or higher, solar panels, pool installation and water heater replacement.
Licensed contractors must perform trade work (plumbing, electrical, HVAC or mechanical), retaining walls over 48 inches and any structural alterations or repairs.

Permit fees in Doraville
Doraville's Community Development fee schedule was adopted on September 16, 2026. New construction and additions are $2 per square foot, and renovation, repair or remodel work is $1.50 per square foot. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits are $100 each. A certificate of occupancy or completion is $25 for residential and $100 for commercial work.
A $75 administrative fee is added to all permits unless stated otherwise. Fees are assessed after plans are approved and can be paid online or in person, not by phone.
Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other trade permits
Trade work needs licensed contractors. If you subcontract a trade under an issued building permit, email the subcontracting form, the subcontractor's photo ID, state trade licence and business licence to permits@doravillega.us so it is added to the active permit.

Every permit needs a notarized affidavit: a homeowner affidavit if the owner who lives there does the work, or a property owner affidavit listing the hired contractor. The City does not accept past versions of these forms.
Plan review takes 10 business days for a first submittal and 10 business days for a resubmittal, assuming the application is complete.

Schedule inspections in Cloudpermit; you need an issued permit first. Requests must be in by 2 p.m. for a next-day inspection. Same-day requests are not accepted, and specific times cannot be requested unless arranged with the inspector.
Some residential permits, including water heater and HVAC replacements, can be inspected remotely by video call. The installing technician, not the owner, schedules it and must be on site.
