The City of Punta Gorda Building Division issues building permits and inspects construction inside the city.

What requires a permit

Punta Gorda's Building Division administers and enforces the adopted codes for construction within the city. Its forms library includes building permits plus separate electric, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, demolition, fence, generator, low-voltage, shutter, window/door/garage-door, pool/spa and seawall/dock/boatlift materials.

The city also publishes floodplain and substantial-improvement forms, which can be required for properties in a regulated flood area.

Permit types

Punta Gorda uses permit-specific applications rather than one generic form for every scope. The city instructs applicants to submit trade permit applications only by email to pgpermittech@cityofpuntagordafl.com. Its public Click2Gov permit site is used for permit information and inspection functions; the city warns that the public link is not the application channel for building permits.

Permit costs & fees

The city states that permit fees vary by permit type and publishes a Building Permit Fee Schedule. City guidance for new construction states that the building permit fee is based on job valuation, with a $50 base fee plus $7 per $1,000 of valuation. New single-family valuation is based on current construction-cost data identified by the city.
