McCurtain County government does not issue building permits; the state building code commission lists it as a county that issues none. Building permits come from the cities and towns that run their own programs, chiefly Idabel, Broken Bow and Hochatown, and on rural land the State Fire Marshal permits buildings in the International Building Code’s occupancy classes. Septic systems are permitted by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

The forms send plans by email to planreview@okiesafety.com. Both forms ask for a code analysis, a site plan, a floor plan with occupant loads and any rated separations, a demolition plan for an existing building, a life safety plan, and an elevation plan where the building is over 30 feet or two or more stories.
