The Peachtree City Building Department manages the City’s building permitting and inspection functions. The department is located at 153 Willowbend Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269 and lists 770-487-8901 as its phone number.

What requires a permit in Peachtree City?

Peachtree City lists permits for new buildings, additions, interior alterations, siding, re-roofing, demolition, tenant build-outs and parking-lot lighting. Its broader permit page also identifies accessory structures, fences, irrigation systems, retaining walls 4 feet or taller, some interior remodels, swimming pools, mechanical/electrical/plumbing work, tree removal and signs.

The City specifically states that replacement windows and doors do not require a building permit when there are no structural alterations. Work must not begin until the permit has been approved, paid and picked up; work performed early can result in a Stop Work Order and double fees.

Who issues building permits in Peachtree City?

Peachtree City contracts with Charles Abbott Associates, Inc. for building and inspection services. Separate approvals can still involve Fayette County Health, Fayette Water Authority, Peachtree City Sewer Authority, Fire and City Engineering depending on project type.

Peachtree City permit types and online filing

Peachtree City accepts permit applications through its online Permitting Portal. Contractors must create an account and then contact the Building Department or Planning Department so City staff can change the account to Contractor status, allowing the user to apply for permits on properties throughout the City.

Homeowners do not need an account simply to request a permit on their own property, but the City states that an account is required to follow application status and submit revised documents. Permit applications and files are not accepted by email; the City instructs applicants to submit files through the online portal only.

Permit costs and fees in Peachtree City

Peachtree City requires plan-review and permit fees to be paid before the application can be reviewed. The City states that plan-review fees are non-refundable, while permit fees may be refundable if the permit is canceled before work begins.

Projects with fire suppression systems, fire alarms or other specialty fire systems have additional fees; the City refers applicants to the Fire Marshal for those permits.

Electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits

Peachtree City requires trade permits for mechanical, electrical and plumbing work. The City says all residential and general contractors must be licensed by the State of Georgia.

Application documents and plan review

The City’s baseline building-permit requirements include an application, construction plans and a site plan drawn on a plat or survey showing distances from property lines, easements and existing structures. Erosion-control plans are required for property within 200 feet of State Waters or for land disturbance over 1 acre.

For new homes, commercial buildings and commercial alterations, the City requires approval letters from Fayette Water Authority and Peachtree City Sewer Authority. Work on lots with septic systems requires a construction approval form from the Fayette Health Department.

Published review times are generally 3–5 business days for residential permits and 10–14 business days for commercial permits. Additional requirements vary by project type and location.

Peachtree City inspection requests submitted by 3:30 p.m. are scheduled for the next regular business day. Requests without a permit number are not set up for inspection, so the permit record must be active and correctly identified.
