Venice states that a permit is required for regulated construction, alteration, repair, demolition and for electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing systems. The city no longer accepts paper permit applications and directs applicants to its online permitting service.

Venice building permit cost
Venice uses valuation-based building permit fees. The City states that, effective April 1, 2025, it rescinded the temporary 30% reduction in valuation-based building permit fees. The current City of Venice Permit Fee Schedule (2022-15) is posted on the Building Department's Fee Schedules page.

How to get a building permit in Venice
Confirm the address is inside Venice city limits and list the building and trade permits the work needs.
